Storyline

Based on true events, Sardar Udham is the spine chilling life story of the Indian revolutionary Udham Singh. The Shaheed Udham Singh carried out the assassination of Michael O’Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of Punjab. Udham Singh was a part of Bhagat Singh’s revolutionary organisation Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). The two were great colleagues and friends.

As depicted in the film, Udham Singh was only a young man when the Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place on the 13th of April in 1919. The traumatised man took it upon himself to deliver the casualties to the nearest doctors and get as many victims treated as possible. The rage and love for his country led him to become one of the greatest revolutionaries known to the nation. It was him, who shot the former lieutenant Michael O’Dwyer at an East India Association meeting on the 13th of March, 1940, in front of the entire crowd. The same year, on the 31st of July, Udham Singh was sentenced to death by hanging.

What do we think?

Sardar Udham is by far, one of the best political genre movies to be made in the country. The monstrous Jallianwala Bagh massacre and Shaheed Udham Singh‘s role in the aftermath is shown with accuracy to give you literal chills.

This has to be, without a doubt, one of Vicky Kaushal‘s finest performances. Vicky has not only brought life to one of India’s most powerful revolutionaries but has also done justice to his sacrifice. Kaushal’s dedication in portraying such a respectable role will go down in Bollywood history as the performance of a lifetime.

Shoojit Sircar has outdone himself with the direction of such a fabulous film. Some of the scenes are sure to give you goosebumps, and we’re talking from experience. This is more than just praiseworthy direction.

Hit or Miss?

Needless to say, this film is an absolute HIT. From the start to finish, you’re going to experience pin-drop silence in your mind but your heart will bleed from the cries of the actors.
