Madhubala-Dilip Kumar Love Story
The Mughal-e-Azam couple were in a relationship for 9 years and had even gotten engaged. But a bitter fight and stubbornness ruined the beautiful romance! Madhubala’s sister Madhur Bhushan had revealed what went wrong with the star-crossed lovers.

What Was The Naya Daur Controversy?
Talking to Filmfare, Madhur had divulged that the separation was caused due to the controversy surrounding B.R Chopra’s ‘Naya Daur’ film. Madhubala had been signed on as the female lead opposite Dilip ji and even been given an advance payment.
But when B.R Chopra wanted to take the filming to Bhopal, Madhubala’s father had objected to it and demanded that the locale be changed.
“At the same location, a mob had attacked women and even torn their clothes off. My father was wary and just asked that the locale be changed. It’s not that he didn’t let her go outdoors,” Madhur had clarified the reason behind their father’s request.
Madhubala-Dilip Kumar Fall-Out!
Obliging her father, Madhubala backed out of the film and B.R Chopra sued her for the advance payment. Meanwhile, Dilip Kumar supported the director and testified in court against Madhubala and her father, which led to bitter resentment and ego clashes.
“Bhaijan (Dilip) could’ve simply said let’s change the location. Or remained neutral. Apa (Madhubala) used to cry a lot those days. They had conversations on the phone trying to patch up. He kept saying, ‘Leave your father and I’ll marry you’. She’d say, ‘I’ll marry you but just come home, say sorry and hug him’. It was zid (ego) which destroyed their love. But my father never asked her to break the engagement or ever demanded an apology from him,” Madhur confessed.
Madhubala Married Kishore Kumar!
Isn’t that heartbreakingly tragic? After the angsty fall-out with her love, Madhubala ji went on a rebound and got married to singer Kishore Kumar.
However, when the doctors detected a hole in her heart and told her she had 2 years to live, Kishore left her at their house saying he couldn’t look after her.
“The doctor told her she had only two years to live. After that Kishore left her at our house saying, ‘I can’t look after her. I’m on outdoors often’. But she wanted to be with him. He’d visit her once in two months though. He bore her medical expenses,” Madhur said.
Died Tragically At 36
The evergreen beauty passed away at the tender age of 36 on 23 February 1969. May her soul rest in peace!
