It was being rumoured that OMG 2 was allegedly made on a 150 crore budget. However, VIACOM 18 COO, Ajit Andhare told Pinkvilla that the numbers were being exaggerated. He even revealed that Akshay hadn’t charged any fee for OMG 2. Since he took on the role of producer as well, he’ll take a share of the film’s eventual profits.

“Akshay didn’t charge a rupee in fee and in fact, walked alongside us in both the financial and creative risk involved in such a courageous film. I have been totally in lockstep with him in taking up scripts that are unconventional but stand for something larger and meaningful. Without him this risk was impossible to take, he was fully invested both creatively and financially,” Ajit commented.

OMG 2 Budget – 50 Crores?

Moreover, an insider source further clarified that OMG 2’s budget was 50 crores only. As per reports, this Pankaj Tripathi-Yami Gautam starrer has crossed Rs 111.8 crores globally with its domestic collection being Rs 84.72 crores.

Synopsis:

OMG 2 revolves around the story of Kanti Sharan Mudgal (played by Pankaj Tripathi). His blissful life takes a dramatic turn after his son Vivek is blamed for immoral conduct and expelled from school. Overwhelmed, Kanti plans to leave town until a divine intervention leads him to seek justice by taking those responsible to court. Akshay Kumar plays the messenger of God, guiding him throughout.

It has been hailed as a groundbreaking film, for having an honest, refreshing take on sex education in India. Ironically, the intended target audience might not be able to watch this film, owing to the ‘A’ certificate.

Pankaj Tripathi has urged the censor board to consider modifying the film’s certificate. He remarked upon how his reel son Aarush Varma, who plays the confused teenager in the film, will not be able to watch his own project due to the ‘A’ certification.

“When the film gets released on OTT or any other platform, the underage kids will then be able to finally watch it. There are no such restrictions there. There is no nudity or violence shown in the film. The film only talks about a bold subject. I was quite disappointed about the film receiving a certification. But that’s alright if the child hasn’t been able to watch his own film, what else can be done,” Pankaj said.
