Kantara Chapter 1 Teaser was released with much fanfare today. The Kantara prequel is headlined by Rishab Shetty, who also shares the writing and directing credits for the project.

Rishab’s intense first from Kantara Chapter 1 Teaser has left the audiences spooked yet excited. The Kantara prequel seems to be set in during the reign of Kadambas, 300 CE.
For the unversed, the Kadambas, who existed from 345-540 CE, were an ancient royal family from Karnataka. They ruled northern Karnataka and the Konkan. One legend surrounding their origins goes that the Trilochana Kadamba emerged from the sweat of Lord Shiva.

Rishab Shetty is introduced as Shiva, in a never-before-seen avatar. He asks the viewers whether they can see the “light” that will help them look both into the past and the future.
Kantara Chapter 1 filming will kickstart in December-end. It will be released in 7 languages this time: Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali and English. The prequel will be released in 2024, though the exact date is yet to be decided.
The music will be composed by B Ajaneesh Loknath, who also handled the tunes for the original.
“Expectations are high, so we are ensuring that the plot and theme are engaging, and high on the intrigue factor for audiences,” Rishab had said.

It was a big commercial success and emerged as the second highest-grossing Kannada film of all time after K.G.F: Chapter 2, released the same year. It was also 2022’s fourth highest-grossing film in India.
Kantara is currently streaming on Netflix.
