Bhumi Pednekar upcoming movie Bhakshak trailer out now! The film will have a direct-to-digital premiere on Netflix. The gripping trailer was dropped earlier today (January 31).
Bhumi Pednekar plays the role of a journalist named Vaishali Singh in the upcoming investigative crime-drama, Bhakshak. Directed by Pulkit, the film also stars Sanjay Mishra, Aditya Srivastava and Sai Tamhankar (of Mimi fame) in prominent roles.
The trailer shows Vaishali – a fearless and determined journalist – on a mission to uncover the truth, the heinous crimes and sexual assaults committed to girls in a shelter home.
Inspired By A True Story –
Set in Bihar, Bhumi’s film is inspired by true events. According to reports, the movie is based on the Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Case, where sexual abuse of 34 out of 42 of the girls living at the shelter was confirmed.
Brajesh Thakur – the prime accused in the case – and 11 others were sentenced to life imprisonment for physically and sexually assaulting several minor girls.
Talking about her role, Bhumi said in a statement –
“In my journey as an actor, I’ve always been drawn to clutter-breaking films that go beyond the conventional narrative. ‘Bhakshak’ is also one such film. In fact, it is one of the most significant films of my career. This has been a profound experience, and I am very grateful for scripts like ‘Bhakshak’ and characters like Vaishali Singh that have the courage to tell these powerful narratives.”
