Earlier this year, Karan Johar’s alleged fall-out with Kartik Aaryan over ‘Dostana 2’ had created a huge controversy.
The makers had also issued an official statement announcing to recast the highly-anticipated sequel.
Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the Collin D’Cunha directorial was announced in 2019 with Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and debutant Lakshya Lalwani in the lead.
While earlier there were reports of KJo approaching Akshay Kumar to step into Kartik’s shoes, now we hear that ‘Dostana 2’ has reportedly been put on the backburner. If this media report is to be believed, Karan has allegedly shelved the much-talked-about sequel.
A source informed the portal – “There was a strong buzz all across that Dostana 2 would be completely reshot with slight tweaking in the script. There was also a talk about Karan Johar approaching his close friend, Akshay Kumar to step into Kartik’s shoes. However now, there is a very strong buzz in the industry that Dostana 2 has been put on the backburner completely.”
“He tried to revamp the film, but when things were taking longer than expected, he decided to put Dostana 2 on hold completely. Janhvi is now doing a film with Sharan Sharma, whereas Lakshya is doing a film with Shashank Khaitan. Akshay on the other hand teams up with Raj Mehta. And with this, Karan has put Dostana 2 silently under the shelf, hoping that it sees the light of day sometime in future,” the source added.
However, there is no official confirmation yet.
Meanwhile, Kartik is currently busy shooting ‘Shehzada’, co-starring Kriti Sanon. He also has a handful of projects lined up in his kitty including ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’, ‘Freddy’, ‘Captain India’ & more.
